JadeWeb : What is your first musical memory ?
Operating a wooden phonogram/record player our family owned,
putting ‘Pinky and Perky’ and Enid Blyton blue and red vinyl 7 " records
on; i think i was age 2-3,and would do this at dawn in the morning,
so I was very keemn! The phonogram was mono and ran at 78, 45, 33,
and 16 speeds. Later I also got into Walt Disney soundtracks. And
loved the Dr Who theme, like any kid...my father was always spoiling
me with toys and the odd vinyl record.
artist or song has "affected" your childhood ?
the Beatles when i was v. young. Their music seemd really complex
but simple too. I Didn’t really get serious until Sparks and Tangerine
Dream when i was 11/12. On cassette.
you think of working in music ? What did you really want to become
I never thought it was possible,...I didnt know what I wanted to become,
in fact being a adult frightened me and still does.
there any disturbing or nice sounds that have "affected" your childhood ?
bird song, I used to be able to identify many birds, now i am getting
back into that a bit...
your parents give you a musical education ?
lessons at the age of 8/9 put me off the idea of making music for
years. (I passed Grade 1). It was painful. My parents tried unsuccessfully
to make me get to have piano lessons in my early puberty...avoided
that thank goodness.

I remember being played some Firebird by Stravinksy and then later
The Planets by Holst in primary school and liking it. Plus seeing
Cliff Richard singing "In The Country" at a pantomime. We had a really
good music teacher in my Grammar school who played us some Terry
Riley and Tim Souster...but I dont rememebr any concerts until my
first gigs (ELO, followed by XTC I think!) at 16/17
